City of West Fargo Requests Sump Pumps be Discharged Outdoors

The City of West Fargo asks residents to discharge sump pumps outdoors. Waste Water Manager Terry Rust reports flows within the sanitary sewer system to be more than twice the normal readings. Rust believes a large portion of the increased volume is due to sump pumps connected to the sanitary sewer within homes.
By ordinance a home owner can request a permit to connect a sump pump into sanitary sewer system during the winter months. During the spring melt it is important to return to pumping outdoors as soon as possible to relieve stress on the sanitary system.
